UC Merced Community Campus Garden

Back for Spring 2025!

The UC Merced Campus Garden is dedicated to addressing food insecurity by providing students with access to fresh, locally grown produce. The garden offers a variety of items, including tea leaves, cooking herbs, fruits, and vegetables. These items support the Food Bank at Basic Needs, helping to alleviate food insecurity on campus. In addition to its role in food distribution, the garden also offers valuable volunteer opportunities for students to get involved.

No prior registration is needed. Please sign in upon arrival to receive approval for Catlife Hours. We’d love to see photos of your experience—feel free to email them to us at communityservice@ucmerced.edu. No gardening experience is required, and all necessary tools are provided. Volunteers can participate in various tasks such as picking weeds, planting seeds, harvesting crops, trimming plants, and organizing the garden shed.

Campus Garden is located on Rancher’s Road behind Valley Terraces and next to Half Dome.

Volunteer opportunities are available twice a week:

  1. Tuesdays from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Campus Orchard (The Orchard is located at the top of campus above the north bowl parking lot).
  2. Fridays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM are workdays, where volunteers can help with planting, transplanting, weeding, and more.

Please note: Spring 2025 Campus Garden volunteering will begin on January 25th with a special workday at the Campus Orchard. More details will be shared soon.
