UC Merced Community Campus Garden

Back for Fall 2024!

The Campus Garden's main goal is to help fight food insecurity on campus by providing students access to fresh produce. They provide everything from tea leaves, herbs for cooking, and fruits or veggies for UC students to enjoy. All the produce is grown for the Food Bank at Basic Needs. Along with the campus garden providing fresh produce and reducing food insecurity, they also offer volunteer opportunities.

Some everyday tasks that can happen are picking weeds, planting seeds, harvesting foods, trimming plants, and helping organize the shed. No sign-up is required; feel free to walk in and start volunteering!

Volunteering is available twice a week: Tuesdays from 9:00AM- 10:30AM you can help harvest and pull together herb packages for the Food Bank. Fridays from 9:00 AM- 11:00 AM help with garden maintenance, start new plants both from seeds and seedlings, transplant overgrown beds and sample what is growing. The garden is located on campus on Rancher's Road behind Valley Terraces and next to Half Dome.

No gardening experience is required, and we supply all the tools necessary.  The bonuses are volunteers can share in whatever is harvested at the end of each session and the garden is a very relaxing environment and students make new friends very quickly.

If you have any questions or are interested, please contact the Zero Waste Coordinator at UC Merced Sustainability, Allajah Wheatley, by emailing awheatley2@ucmerced.edu

THE LAST DAY TO VOLUNTEER FOR THE CAMPUS GARDEN IS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13TH. Opportunity will resume in January.
