Lift While You Lead

Lift While You Lead is Back for Fall 2024!

Lift While You Lead (LWYL) connects undergraduate students at UC Merced with students in Merced and the surrounding Central Valley area. UC Merced students serve as mentors to high school students enrolled in Women’s Studies classes at Golden Valley High School and Yosemite High School. The small group mentoring relationship provides mentors and mentees with support, guidance, and encouragement – all with an emphasis on health, education, and leadership. Beyond small group mentoring, all participants are also strongly encouraged to participate in Women's Programs activities and other events related to the theme Lift While You Lead. The Lift While You Lead Women’s Program has been federally recognized by President Obama's administration.

By participating in the Lift While You Lead program, you will be eligible for our Community Service Graduation Pin! Full participation must be completed for the Community Service Graduation Pin, which is a semester-long commitment.

Time Commitments

• Runs every Wednesday or Friday (with exception to Holidays)
• 50 minute class time plus commute time (per week)
• 1 -2 hours of program planning with your group (per week) unless group decides to assign different members days to plan
• Approximately 3 hours per week for 10 weeks of total commitment

• Friday, 3rd Period at Golden Valley HS (10:23am-11:13am)
• Friday, 4th Period at Golden Valley HS (11:18am-12:06pm)
• Friday, 5th Period at Golden Valley HS (12:11am-12:59pm)
• Wednesday, 7th Period at Yosemite High School (1:38pm - 2:20pm)

Volunteers will be able to select one or more class periods to attend.
