About

The Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit registered in the state of California and their mission is "to empower all individuals worldwide to learn, experiment, and create together through the medium of games in a safe and welcoming environment."

By participating in the Global Game Jam at UC Merced, we hope to raise the community’s awareness of the research & virtual enviroment creation work happening at UC Merced. This event will be one more way UC Merced is working to expand access to education and innovation is our local community to inspire young up-and-coming game creators to think differently about gaming – realizing the potential use of gaming to seriously & meaningfully impact the health and mental health industries.  

This event will be held on UC Merced’s campus. All eligible (16 years old and over) are welcome to participate, especially those from local high schools, community colleges, and nearby California State Universities.

Schedule

For the Global Game Jam, the event will begin on Friday February 3 at 3 o’clock in the afternoon by introducing the main theme for the game development on the first floor of COB2 (room information to come soon). From there, both participants and volunteers will relocate to the second and third floor conference rooms of COB2 (rooms 290 and 390). The majority of the event will take place in these two rooms until 5pm on Sunday when the event will end. Volunteers can check in at COB2 room 390 on the third floor. 

Throughout the event, volunteers' main responsibilities will consist of monitoring and assisting participants and ensuring the well-being of those involved. In addition, they may be needed when passing out food and snacks to participants.
