Virtual Service: Crisis Text Line

How It Works

This is a year-long service opportunity.

Crisis Text Line is the free, 24/7 text line for people in crisis in the United States. As a volunteer Crisis Counselor, you will answer texts from people in crisis, bringing them from a hot moment to a cool calm through active listening, collaborative problem solving, and safety planning.

See below to learn more about the volunteer process and how to get started! Please visit www.crisistextline.org/become-a-volunteer/ for more information.

Step #1

Visit the Crisis Text Line website to learn more about what Crisis Counselors do, the volunteer process, and the time commitment and hours.

Visit www.crisistextline.org and click the "Volunteer" tab.

Step #2

Submit the 30-minute Crisis Counselor application.

Volunteers must be 18 or older, have a US Social Security #, and consent to a background check.

You must also submit two references.

Through this training, you will receive the expertise you need to successfully & empathetically navigate crisis intervention.

All Crisis Text Line training is web-based.

Step #4

Take your first counseling shift and start changing lives!

Crisis Text Line supervisors will be there to support you during conversations.

Counselors commit to volunteering 4 hours per week until 200 hours are reached.
