Virtual Service: The Trevor Project

Are you looking for a long-term service opportunity? Become a remote volunteer Crisis Counselor for The Trevor Project! The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.

Volunteers can either register to be a Crisis Counselor through digital messaging or telephone. Digital Messaging Crisis Counselors are trained to answer chat messages or texts online from young people who are struggling with issues such as coming out, LGBTQ identity, depression, and suicide. Throughout training, volunteers will learn about gender identity, suicidology, risk factors for LGBTQ young people, and Trevor’s Crisis Support Model to prepare them to speak with youth in crisis. Telephone Crisis Counselors are trained to answer calls on our 24/7 Lifeline from young people who are feeling suicidal or need a safe, non-judgmental place to talk.

Visit the Trevor Project’s website to learn more about their mission and volunteer opportunities. Volunteers can register to be crisis counselors via either digital messaging or telephone.
