Virtual Service: SPEAK! Leadership Academy Coach

Interested in helping initiate conversations surrounding social justice issues? Check out this remote service opportunity from Novelly and LA Works! Novelly is looking for SPEAK! Leadership Academy coaches who can train high school students in leading conversations about social issues. This ed-tech nonprofit aims to create youth-driven spaces for courageous conversations about issues in ways that are uplifting and energizing, rather than polarizing and hostile.

What is an SLA Coach?

A SPEAK Leadership Academy (SLA) coach is a college student who trains future Novelly chapter leaders to have conversaionts with their peers about social issues that are challending but important to discuss, such as climate change, police brutality, and rape culture.

Responsibilities

Each SLA Coach is assigned a group of 5-6 high school students each semester and are responsible for these tasks:

  • Attend (Virtual) Orientation (Week 1)
  • Facilitate The Program (Weeks 2-7)
  • Facilitate 6 calls with your group of students
  • Monitor and grade their assignments onGoogle Classroom
  • Evaluate Your Students (Week 8)

Commitment

An SLA Coach is expected to commit 3-5 hours per week for 8 weeks for at least 1 semester (fall, spring and/or summer).

Volunteers are currently needed through June 30, 2021. Volunteers can register for this opportunity individually or as a team!
